I get that a lot

Posted By: Whollys Staff Filed Under: Entertainment, Videos

By Kate Ward

I’ll admit it: I’ll watch Candid Camera,Punk’d, Scare Tactics, or basically any other prank-centric show that airs on TV. (Sorry, Howie Mandel, but Howie Do Itdoes not make the cut, since you make zero effort to hide your appearance while pranking unsuspecting citizens. A wig and a pair of glasses does not a disguise make!) And that’s not just because my great-grandmother was gullible enough to be pranked twice on Candid Cameraback in the day. There’s just nothing quite like watching someone reach a point of hysterical rage — after a waiter serves coughed-on food, or a 10-year-old spray paints a luxury car, etc. — only to slap a smile on their face as soon as they realize they’re on television.

So I was pumped to hear that CBS will air a celebrity prank show on April Fools Day this year. The problem is, after reading its description, it seems just a bit lame. I Get That a Lot sends celebrities like Heidi Klum, Ice-T, and Jessica Simpson to work in ordinary jobs while cameras watch them try to convince customers that they aren’t who they appear to be. It’s a stunt that could be funny the first time you see it, but I’m thinking the joke will get old over the course of an entire one-hour special. And honestly, am I supposed to be surprised to see Mario Lopez working at a hot dog stand? That being said, since the cute and bubbly Heidi Klum could really do no wrong in my book, I will tune in just to see her attempt to make pizza and speak English at the same time.

Will you watch I Get That a Lot? Which of the celebrities — Heidi Klum, Ice-T, Jessica Simpson, Mario Lopez, Jeff Probst, and LeAnn Rimes — would you most like to see pranking ordinary folks? And while we’re on the subject, what’s your favorite hidden-camera show of all time?

College Students Success Secrets – Overcoming Adversity, Knock the T Out of Can’t

Posted By: Whollys Staff Filed Under: Uncategorized

42-15422212

By Paul Davis

Conquer your fears, transcend your limitations, and be a college student success story by overcoming adversity and knocking the T out of can’t. Only believe and you can achieve success. Overcoming adversity may be tough, but any college student can overcome with these simple success secrets.

When I entered college and went through growing pains, I realized I was in store for some new challenges for which I had never been forewarned. My parents encouraged my academic success throughout high-school into college, but never bothered to prepare me for the rigors of college life and academics.

There is a big difference in college between knowing you “what” you need to do and knowing “how” to do it. Unfortunately many college professors (perhaps by reason of being in the trenches of academia too long) are not always so helpful in that regard. Plus it is often hard to find someone as a college student who you can relate to who also has some intelligence who can guide and counsel you.

Sadly even college counselors sometimes treat you like another problem in their caseload rather than a genuine person needing someone with a heart to talk to. That being said here are some success secrets to help any college student overcome adversity on their university campus.

1. Stay calm and cool.

When you stay calm and cool, what you need to do will more easily come to you.

Just acknowledge and recognize your present problem, after which set in your heart the intention to tackle it once you know what to do. Upon setting your intent to tackle and deal with this problem, you assuredly will eventually figure it out and take it out!

2. Listen intently, ask questions, and seek out intelligent people.

The more you listen, the more you learn. Those two ears attached to the side of your head are there for a reason. Unfortunately most people prefer to move their mouth a million miles a minute to vocalize their problem, rather than solve it.

Problem solvers however know the secret to solving problems successfully is to quietly process the problem, design a strategy to solving it, and inviting intelligent people around you to help you figure out how to tackle it.

Humbly yourself and ask questions of those around, preferably those with intelligence who can provide good advice and tell you what they would do. As you listen and gain varying perspectives, eventually intuitively it will come to you what it is you should do.

3. Don’t despise the process as you sort through the pieces.

Everybody wants to be a college student success story, but success doesn’t come overnight. You have to make the grades for four years and remain focused through the many attractive distractions throughout college.

As in obtaining a degree, wherein is required the completion of various coursework, overcoming adversity sometimes requires life work and internal home work as you sort through the pieces to your ordeal.

When my mom died prematurely due to a drunk driver hitting her, I had to process some of my unanswered questions and find closure. This was not done easily and took time. Likewise must you most likely give yourself some time to sort through the personal pieces and elements to that which is presently testing and challenging you. Embrace the process regardless of the present pain, knowing assuredly that as you do you will grow through and get up above your problem eventually.

Once you rise above it, you will then be able to objectively look down and back at it to see more clearly. When that time comes, you will simultaneously be able to comfort and lift others currently suffering in a similar dilemma as you. Therefore your present suffering is not in vain, as truly it will empower you to help others just the same.

4. Celebrate your progress.

Celebrate your small successes and steps forward.

When I was hit by a drunk driver (another drunk driving accident years after my mom was killed) and my car was totaled, I was injured physically and great crushed financially. I was already suffering financially before the accident. The drunk driving accident however pushed me over the edge. Suddenly I was now having to use rental cars for months, fight my insurance company for payment, visit medical doctors continually, and sort through stacks of legal documents and medical bills nonstop.

At one point I foolishly said and thought it would have been better if the drunk driver would have killed me, because the pain of the present situation after the accident was crushing and killing me. It is safe to say I was overwhelmed and miserable.

Nevertheless serendipitously a car dealer showed up in my life and offered to personally finance a car for me to buy (since my credit was ruined after the accident and I couldn’t get a decent loan from a car dealer). I was so thankful and appreciative.

Nevertheless I had to make car payments in the range of $2,000 a month, while trying to live off a teaching salary of $2,600 a month and pay a mortgage on my house. Incidentally, those 6 months were very challenging.

Yet when I finally made that last car payment, I rejoiced and sighed a sigh of relief.

Sometimes it is the little things in life that we most take for granted, but suddenly begin to appreciate when they are swiftly removed from us.

I therefore gave thanks to God and rejoiced upon making that final car payment.

What are you thankful for today? As you begin to give thanks something will arise within you, whereby you will be lifted above your adversity and the ability to overcome will mightily move you forward.

Cultivate an attitude of gratitude and apply these marvelous success secrets to work miracles in your life and propel you happily and successfully through college into your dream career!

Wishing you great and continued success!

 Crazy fan stalks Vicki Gunvalson

Someone is not a fan of Vicki Gunvalson who appears on Bravo’s reality show, “The Real Housewives of the O.C.” She has actually received two death threats by a crazed female fan. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department is investigating two death threats received by Vicki Gunvalson. We’re told sheriffs believe the two threats came from “a fanatical female fan who takes the show way too seriously.” According to Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino, Vicki received one of the threats through a phone call — and the other through an email sent to another cast member from the show, Jeana Keough. The email told Keough not to worry about Gunvalson because she “would take care of Vicki for her.”

Madonna’s Missing Millions

Posted By: Whollys Staff Filed Under: Uncategorized

By Roger Friedman http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,511737,00.html

madonna300 Madonnas Missing Millions

Before Madonna “adopts” another child from Malawi, maybe someone should ask her where the money went from her big star studded 2008 fundraiser for that country.

We tried: this column has tried to ascertain from The GucciFoundation and from Madonna’s Kabbalah-backed Raising Malawi where the estimated $3.7 million has gone from the February 6, 2008 extravaganza. So far: No answers.

You may recall that Madonna summoned all her celebrity friends, especially the ones involved with Kabbalah like Demi Mooreand Ashton Kutcher, as well those caught up in their own fringe religions like Tom Cruise andKatie Holmes.

The fundraiser had some problems, however. Even though Raising Malawi had been in business for two years, it was still not approved as a sanctioned non profit at the time. Instead, Gucci formed its own Foundation — known as a 501 c3 — to collect the money. They brought UNICEF on board to give the event a feeling of legitimacy. But in the end, the efforts expended were for Raising Malawi, an organization founded by the Kabbalah Center of Los Angeles. Raising Malawi teaches the Kabbalah curriculum, called Spirituality for Kids, to Malawi orphans.

Now, fourteen months after the fundraiser, there’s no accounting for the money that came in. At the time, Gucci claimed that they’d underwritten the entire event, that $3.7 million had been raised and that it had been split between Raising Malawi and UNICEF.

But since then, The Gucci Foundation has still not filed a Form 990 tax statement, and neither has Raising Malawi. Calls to Gucci haven’t provided any information, and calls and emails to Raising Malawi haven’t been returned.

Where the money has gone — and the whole story of Raising Malawi — comes at an inconvenient time for Madonna. She’s currently back in Malawi trying to adopt yet another child, this time a four year girl named Mercy. According to a well reported story in London’s Daily Mail, the controversial pop star is getting a lot of criticism for trying to take Mercy away from her family. Madonna appeared at a hearing yesterday in Malawi to plead her case.

Mercy’s parents are dead, but her extended family — grandmother, uncle, cousins, etc — are said to be opposed to the plan. So too is Malawi’s Human Rights Consultative Committee. According to the Daily Mail, the HRCC’s executive director, Mabvuto Bamusi, called Madonna “a child kidnapper.”

“We feel Madonna is behaving like a bully,” Undule Mwakasungula, HRCC’s national co-ordinator, told the Daily Mail after last Friday’s court hearing. “She has money, she has status, she is using her profile to manipulate the procedures.”

What the Mail and other sources have pointed out is that Madonna has changed her entire persona for this process. She’s dropped the 20 year old Brazilian boy toy she’d been parading around New York, and gotten away from the scandal of her relationship with ball player Alex Rodriguez and the consequent break up of his marriage. In Malawi she dressesconservatively, as if in a movie role, and not at all as she lives in the U.S. or U.K. It’s doubtful that the Malawi HRCC has ever seen her “Sex” book, for example.

Meantime — call it a coincidence, but day after tomorrow — Thursday, April 2nd — Madonna is suddenly launching a charity auction on ebay for Raising Malawi. The auction is so last minute that there are no details. It’s supposedly timed to the publication of a book tied in to I Am Because We Are, her self-serving and unsuccessful documentary about Madonna discovering poverty and hunger in Africa. (The film, which was never picked up by a distributor, is often called “We Are Because I Am.”)

Apparently on April 2nd an auction will take place at some place called the Power House Arena in Brooklyn, home to the small indie publisher PowerHouse Books. Like most Madonna events “for the people,” this will be by invitation only according to a press release buried on the internet. It’s unclear whether Madonna and her sizeable staff — all of whom she took to Malawi for the adoption hearing as well as gym equipment and nannies — will be back for the big event.

Sources say Vanity Fair magazine has cancelled its annual soiree at the Cannes Film Festival. The party usually occurs on the first Saturday night and is held at the ultra swanky Eden Rocrestaurant at the Hotel du Cap in Antibes. No reason was given for the cancellation but for the obvious: the economy. Since this was one of the few sure bets in Cannes for total star power, we can only hope the mag will reconsider…

It seems as though CBS is continuing its real life soap opera at its daytime dramas. Last year the network axed Martha Byrne, star of “As the World Turns,” over a pay dispute. The show has lost around 700,000 viewers over the past year.

Now word comes that the network may be forcing the hand of “Young & the Restless” star Jess Walton, a twenty year vet and Emmy winner, again over pay cuts. Walton, whose witty and sexy portrayal of Jill Abbott makes the show, would seem too important to fight with.

But then again, CBS seems like it just wants out of soaps period. The network is also on the verge of canceling 72 year old “Guiding Light,” after turning into a shadow of its former self with hand held cameras and no production values. Over on “World Turns,” there’s more controversy: none of the show’s senior players – some on the air since 1960 — have been seen in episodes this year so far at all.

And the problems aren’t only at CBS. NBC recently cast off “Days of our Lives” star Deidre Hallafter 30 plus year. And at ABC there’s a rumor that Erika Slezak, the best actress on daytime, star of the show since the early 70s, may be facing the end of her run. A lot of people say soaps were killed by the O.J. Simpson trial in 1994-95, but I disagree. Megalomaniac executive producers — lampooned in the great comedy “SoapDish” — and hack writers recycled from show to show, did this genre in.

…Updates:

Michael Jackson’s manager, Tohme Tohme, has taken down his website at trw-advertising.com. It’s just gone. This was the website on which he claimed to be Ambassador at Large to Senegal. The Senegal Embassy in Washington DC said they’d never heard of him. According to witnesses, Tohme travels on a Senegal passport and presents some kind of letter to customs officials about his ambassadorship. “If it’s not true, then it’s pretty easy to fool British authorities,” one source sniffed…

…I told last week about strife concerning “The Informers,” the film based on Brett Easton Ellis’snovel. Well, first of all, the movie is opening on April 24th. And second, publicists insist that the actors are fully behind it and doing promotion. Well, not Mickey Rourke. And Kim Basinger’sgoing to do some video thing, and everyone swears the whole cast will work the red carpet, even Ellis…

…And yes, that was former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and wife Judith at the Breakers in Palm Beach over the weekend, enjoying private life. Rooms there start at $499…

No You Girls is the second single from the succesful Franz Ferdinand’s album “Tonight: Franz Ferdinand”, and has been related with another version called Katherine Kiss Me, a ballad also included in their last album. It has been produced by Dan Carey and Franz Ferdinand, and as well as the rest of the songs in the album, it includes some electro-pop sounds, colorful guitars and bass sounds, making an interesting use of their particular style by taking the instruments to a different level of rythms.

This is an  impressive piece of Norwegian Wood. The innovative open-air stage has become a focal point in the centre of the municipality of Sandnes. The glass roof covers a level, flexible space, creating an acoustic shelter within the open public square – sound is amplified during concerts and background noise is reduced. The semi-transparent roof structure is supported on bunched columns in slender sections of solid, untreated oak – reminiscent of a cluster of trees.

How to Avoid a DUI Stop by Police

Posted By: Whollys Staff Filed Under: Uncategorized

dui photo How to Avoid a DUI Stop by Police

By Colleen Gray

If you are driving with any measurable amount of alcohol in your blood, even an amount well within the legal limit, and a police officer is prepared to testify that you were impaired, you can be convicted of drunk driving.

This means that if you stop for even just one drink with friends on the way home from work you could lose your driving license, and gain a criminal record. Here are some ways to avoid a DUI stop by police.

Be Sure Your Vehicle is in Good Order

As a responsible driver you keep your vehicle in good operating condition. But anyone can overlook a burned out bulb. After stopping for that drink with friends, and before driving, make sure your headlights, tail lights, license plate illumination and brake lights are all working properly.

Checking your brake lights can be a bit tricky if you are alone but it has to be done if you’re going to avoid a DUI check. Have a friend check the lights for you or just ask anyone passing on the street to have a quick look while you press on your brake pedal. If there is no one around that can check for you then look for some place where you can see a reflection of your vehicles rear end. A shop window works well.

Obey the Law, But Don’t Go Overboard

It’s obvious that you should obey the rules of the road whether you have had a drink or not. But if you have had a drink be extra aware of your driving. Don’t speed, signal well in advance of turns, don’t change lanes more than necessary and signal your lane changes. Stop completely at stop signs, no rolling stops.

On the other hand don’t arouse police suspicion by being over cautious. Don’t drive under the speed limit. Don’t signal your turns a mile ahead. At a four way stop, take your proper turn.

Avoid Areas Associated With Alcohol Consumption

Police naturally focus their DUI prevention measures on areas where people are drinking. Any part of town that has lots of bars and clubs will get extra attention. Take another route. Plenty of alcohol goes down at sporting events as well and the police may well be monitoring the roads near stadiums and other sports venues for drunk drivers. Find another way home even if you have to go out of your way. It’s worth it to keep a DUI off your record.

If the Police Are Behind You, Get Some Groceries

If you see a police car behind you don’t panic and start driving like you just got your driving license that morning. If your vehicle lights are in good order and you have been driving within the rules of the road then the patrol cars presence probably has nothing to do with you. Drive normally and refrain from looking in your rear view mirror every few seconds.

With a patrol car at your rear you are much more likely to make a mistake that will get you pulled over for a DUI check. Get out of the line of fire. Pull into a Seven Eleven for a coffee or even better, head to the nearest grocery store and go stock up on some staples. Let the patrol car get well clear.

The only sure way to avoid a DUI conviction is to never even smell a glass of beer or a drink before getting behind the wheel. But if you choose to drive after having had a drink be sensible and cautious, follow these simple guidelines and avoid a DUI conviction that could have a very ugly impact on your life.
